Coil type heat exchangers, often referred to as serpentine coil heat exchangers, are a type of heat exchanger used for transferring heat between two fluids. They are characterized by their compact and coiled tube design. 

The working principles of coil type heat exchangers involve the following key aspects:

Design: Coil type heat exchangers consist of a bundle of coiled tubes enclosed within a cylindrical or rectangular shell. The two fluids, typically referred to as the hot fluid and cold fluid, flow through these coiled tubes.

Heat Transfer: Heat is transferred from the hot fluid to the cold fluid as they flow through the coil. The hot fluid enters the coil at one end and flows through the tubing, transferring its heat to the tube walls. 

The heat is then conducted through the tube walls and transferred to the cold fluid, which flows around the exterior of the coil.

Flow Paths: The two fluids can flow in either a parallel flow or counterflow arrangement. In parallel flow, both fluids flow in the same direction, while in counterflow, they flow in opposite directions. Counterflow typically results in higher heat transfer efficiency.
